Thank You

Jess, Beth, Nenya, Tish, Tsutsuji:

Thank you for your kind thoughts.... It finally hit me this morning, that Dad won't be there when I go 'home' for Mom's birthday next month, or in June for their Wedding anniversary, or the 4th of July, or ever again... I credit Dad with my love for theater and the spoken word; he graduated from Northwestern with a Speech and Communications major; I grew up with stories of the old time radio shows, and for the first decade of my life, Dad was employed in the Radio business -- either on-the-air, sales advertising, or managing (when he was in the Nursing Home last Fall, a lady came up to him at dinner because she'd recognized his voice from 50 years ago as a radio announcer!); so I think it was natural that my first real job out of college was at a local Radio Station. I also credit Dad with my love for fantasy and science fiction (he and Mom share credit for reading and writing), since he was the one who brought home an early American edition of The Hobbit, and The Lord of the Rings. For years he owned and ran a Gift/Book/Craft store in my old home town, and organized a number of Sports and Trading Card Shows, with former CUBS and BEARS players and MAGIC:The Gathering Tournaments. I never played MAGIC, but Dad and two of my sisters, and eventually my nephew did, so family Holiday gatherings (no pun intended, honest!) frequently turned into family tournaments.

Good memories....

Thanks for letting me blather....

I know what you mean; I think the hardest thing is realizing how final it all is. It sounds like you have some great memories. Your Dad sounds awesome and it's great that you shared so much.

My Dad was a big baseball fan. Every year when the season starts, I think of him. I'm not going to pretend it isn't sad, but as time goes on, remembering him yelling at the TV every time a Yankee batter struck out in a clutch situation or sitting in the upper deck with him and my brother makes me smile, too..

Hugs!

Dad was a Die-Hard CUBS fan;he went to Spring Training a couple of times, and even Fantasy Baseball Camp one year (he had a 'pinch runner' because of his heart condition!). One of his friends told Mom that Dad was sure to enjoy heaven, because CUBS win every game!
