20 First Lines? I'd be Lucky to Come up with 10!
There's a meme making the fanfic rounds about posting the first lines of your 20 most recent fics.....
If I include the unfinished ones on LJ, and the three that aren't available on-line or on a computer harddrive (hard copies only -- and they're somewhere in the storage bins in the attic), I MIGHT be able to come up with ten....
1. “This had better be important!”
2. ‘Discipline the body, and the mind will follow.’ One of my British great uncles used to say that, although I suspect he was referring more to the use of corporal punishment as an educational incentive than my current martial arts regimen.
3. "I didn't realize you were Christian, Bakura."
4. The pain was gone; not just the sharp splintery stabbing knives of shattered bone and the clawing tearing ripping of -- no, don't remember that, oh God, not now, not this! -- or even the mule-kick blow to the head more anticipated than actually felt it happened that sudden but no less hurtful or deadly for all that.... all of it was gone, even the bone-deep aches from old bruises, the grind and click of worn joints that bothered him more and more often of late, especially in the rare rainy spell at home or the almost as rare winter trips to Wyoming and his own personal paradise and purgatory rolled into one.
5. I couldn't do it.
6. With a deafening final chord and near blinding explosion, the hottest band of the year ended the final song, the final set, the final concert of their Spring World tour.
7. Today is not a good day.

Should I include the YGO/Torchwood AU?
Edited to Add: Okay, I did.... which leaves two 'zine stories in the attic unaccounted for....
I *think* people are supposed to guess the stories???
