Mother's Day weekend was bittersweet. The sweet consisted of being reminded that it had been one year since bringing Belldandy home, receiving a rosebush from husband and child, and spending most of that day with MY mother (and father and daughter). The bitter? Going with my husband to the cemetery the day before to visit the grave-sites of HIS mother and half-brother, and learning that My Dad has prostate cancer. Yes, I know that Prostate cancer is one of the more easily treated and survivable of the lot.... but my dad is 77, has diabetes, high blood pressure and heart problems.

Daughter is having boy problems again.... it's complicated. For a while she and the Out-of-State Scumsucker from the January/February soap opera tried to patch things up, his mother got into the act and offered to pay for Daughter to fly out there and go to OoSSs' high school Prom, but that fell through... then one of her 'friends-who-happens-to-be-a-boy' from Anime Club started liking Daughter... a LOT. Poor kid was almost crying on my shoulder, 'cause she DOES like him, as a friend; wants to keep him as a friend, doesn't want to give him false hope; and now he's asked her to double date with another couple from Anime CLUB to OUR prom. I can sympathize; I went through something similar my Junior year in college, during which it seemed like every time I turned around one of my male classmates whom I considered a friend was professing an interest in 'getting closer'...

Well, enough angst. My right foot, badly sprained just before Easter, seems to be healing properly, although not yet up to par. Still limping a bit, especially when tired, and it aches at odd intervals. The doctor told me it generally takes 4-6 weeks, and I know I've pushed it a bit.

There's a fanfic fandom meme making the rounds: Choose a character from the posted list of fandoms, and I'll tell you three things about him/her/it from my personal fanon/fanfiction. I've hesitated because I've written so little, in only a few fandoms, and I'm not sure if anything I come up with will make ANY sense, especially since I tend to blend my fanons in weird ways (multi-fandom crossovers, anyone?) But.....

Here goes: Real Ghostbusters
AirWolf
Highlander
StarGate SG:1
Yu-Gi-Oh! (not GX)
Brokeback Mountain

I'm really sorry to hear about your dad. I'll pray for him. **HUGS**

My ankle still aches a lot at odd intervals, and it's been about four years :/ Hopefully you won't have to deal with that.

Umm, Methos

[identity profile] not-hathor.livejournal.com 2007-05-17 06:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Thanks, Jess! *Hugs back*

Three totally Non-Canon things about Methos from my version of the Highlander Universe:

1. 3,000 (or was it 5,000?) years ago in Egypt, while still in a 'Horsemen' state of mind Methos 'killed' a Royal Metallurgist named Tak-ne (aka Ramirez) in front of two of his (non-Immortal) apprentices, but failed to behead him AND neglected to dispose of the witnesses. This ancient indiscretion almost gets Dr. Adam Pierson killed in 1999 when an anthropologist colleague introduces him to his recently-acquired teen-aged ward who is the re-incarnation of one of those apprentice metallurgists.

2. Sometime during the mid-1600's in France, Methos accidentally acquired a female student when he came upon a highway robbery/murder in progress. Said student is currently a successful Legal Advocate in Montreal, Canada, and has long since forgiven the vampire responsible for her first death.

3. Methos smuggled the presumed-dead Richie Ryan out of France and back to the U.S. after Duncan MacLeod supposedly decapitated him at that Paris racetrack in 1995. He and Connor set up a new identity for Richie, and at the moment Methos is the only Immortal who knows where he is, more or less.

Good enough?

1.) wow. cool.

3.) Damn. I was glad Richie was dead! He annoyed me a lot...

I wish to know what you know about the brothers Kaiba. ::cheats just a little::

[identity profile] not-hathor.livejournal.com 2007-05-17 07:20 pm (UTC)(link)

Ohhhhh-kaaaay....

Three totally non-Canon facts about Seto and Mokuba Kaiba, according to my version(s)of the Yu-Gi-Oh! universe:

1. Their original family name was Shinomori; they are direct descendants of Aoshi and Misao, former leaders of the Oniwaban group of Kyoto (ref. "Rurouni Kenshin: Legend of Kyoto").

2. Seto and Mokuba's mother was not Japanese.

3. Mokuba thinks nii-sama needs to get laid. Seto thinks that otouto-chan may be right, but it's none of his business!

Good enough?

[identity profile] dragovianknight.livejournal.com 2007-05-17 07:24 pm (UTC)(link)
::squees over #1::

::giggles madly over #3::

::also thinks Mokuba is probably right::

My love to you and your family and I hope that all will turn out well.

As for the ankle, I sprained mine at the end of november and was on crutches for about three weeks and came of them, too early, and it still twinges occasionally and hurts too especially when I drive for long periods of time. And I pushed myself on that one. Painkillers are very good ^^

Daniel from SG1 ^^

[identity profile] not-hathor.livejournal.com 2007-05-17 09:38 pm (UTC)(link)
Daniel, huh? This one's gonna be tough... I don't really have much on Daniel...

Three totally Non-Canon facts about Dr. Daniel Jackson according to my version of the Stargate SG-1 universe:

1. When Daniel was very young, a friend of his grandfather's gave him an amulet he called the 'Head of the Staff of Ra' and told him to never trust the government with important artifacts. Daniel has NO idea what happened to it, but suspects one of his foster-parents pawned it for cigarette money.

2. Daniel's best friend prior to the Stargate program was a fellow Egyptologist who never laughed at Daniel's wacko theories about the pyramids and aliens because he had his OWN wacko theories about a
Nameless Pharoah and some mysterious stone tablets found in the desert near Giza.

3. Post-Ascension Daniel doesn't remember why, but Dr. Adam Pierson always reminds him of lightning storms and swords.

Okay, I'll take a go: Peter Venkman.

And question: is there any chance you might be interested in beta-reading a yamishipping fic, or know someone who might be interested? I'm trying to turn up a beta for a friend of mine, [livejournal.com profile] daimeryan_rei, for the Novella Challenge.

[identity profile] not-hathor.livejournal.com 2007-05-18 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Ahhhh, Doctor Venkman, is it? Bwahahahahahahaha!

Three non-Canon factoids about Dr. Peter Venkman according to my version of the RealGhostbusters universe:

1. Peter's maternal grandparents immigrated from Russia in the 1920's; his grandmother's maiden name was Romanov (when the Don Bluth animated movie "Anastasia" came out in 199?, my friend Sheila mentioned that in several scenes Dmitri reminded her of Peter; I said half-jokingly that maybe he and 'Anya' had children after coming to America. Sheila promptly wrote an RGB fanfiction called "Peter the Great" that took the notion and ran with it. *Grin* Technically it's HER fanon, but it was my idea, so it's mine too!).

2. Peter fell truly, madly, deeply in love with the temporary secretary who turned out to be Egon's second cousin, but refuses to admit to it because he is under the mistaken impression that she loves Egon ( Girls' Night Out, which was published in 1992 in the RGB fanzine "Ecto-2" under my real name, foolish newbie that I was!).

3. Peter is allergic to corn pollen, which is why he will NEVER set foot in the state of IOWA ever again during the months of July and August!

(okay, I was getting a little desperate on the last one, but it COULD be true!)

Re: the beta question -- Sorry! I'd love to but I'm afraid I'm short on time this weekend.... apparently Daughter has decided that it's okay to go to PROM Saturday night with her friend-who-happens-to-be-a-boy, which means frantic shopping and other (NOT!) fun stuff....

Yeah, it's a bit of a big project, probably less a weekend and more several weeks. (It's about 60,000 words. Not sure how many pages that is, but a LOT.) If you know anyone or hear of anyone, could you point them my way so I can relay them to Daimeryan Rei?

So how'd that go?

[identity profile] reziac.livejournal.com 2007-06-19 08:15 pm (UTC)(link)
... since the most-stable relationships usually start out as just-friends, not as romances.

Tho sometimes it ruins the friendship, too. Probably depends on whether it was really reciprocal to start with, or co-dependent, or with the just-friend being more needy than friend... none being the real thing.

As to the fanfic memes... ain't got the foggiest. :)

What do you think about Ryou?

[identity profile] not-hathor.livejournal.com 2007-05-25 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Heya, kat! Ryou is easy, considering he's one of my fav's...

Three (or more)Totally non-canon details about Ryou Bakura, according to my fanfiction Yu-Gi-Oh universe:

1. Ryou was born in Egypt, while his parents were on an archeological dig outside of Memphis.

2. Ryou's mother was British (Welsh, actually) and he spent a good bit of his early childhood at his maternal grandparents' home. He has fond memories of Grand-dad Pwyll and 'Uncle Jamie', but not-so-fond memories of his grandmother, 'the shrivel-hearted harridan', to quote Lft. Jamieson (formerly of U.N.I.T.).

3. He is quite fond of Mokuba in an older-brotherly way, possibly because he misses Amane; Ryou and Mokuba both belong to Kendo Club at their seperate schools and at least once a month the clubs have joint meetings.

4. Ryou joined the Kendo club on the recommendation of his therapist, who thought it would be good for him. To his surprise, Ryou discovered that he enjoys learning Japanese Swordsmanship very much and is actually quite good at it for a beginner.

[identity profile] imagines.livejournal.com 2007-05-28 03:11 am (UTC)(link)
Ooh, I like your ideas of him! I don't know anyone else who thinks his mom was British. ^^ And I'd never thought of how he might interact with Mokuba...I don't know if I've ever written them into the same scene. o.O But that would be cool.

[identity profile] not-hathor.livejournal.com 2007-05-28 03:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Hiya! One of the first YGO fanfiction stories I ever read mentioned 'Ryou's British mother' and it stuck with me because I am *such* an Anglophile, and I love the accent from the Funimation/4kids dub.... Unfortunately it seems to be "uncool" in YGO fandom to admit to liking the dub.

5) When Mokuba talks Seto into sponsoring a Halloween Charity Ball, Ryou attends costumed as Jareth the Goblin King from "Labyrinth", which Moukuba thinks is 'totally wicked' and asks if the Goblin King has come to take his big brother away. At this point, Mokuba knows that there is some quarrel between Ryou and Seto, and is hoping to get his best friend and his nii-sama to 'kiss and make up'; needless to say, it's NOT that simple!

I think the stigma of dub-liking has lessed somewhat, with YGO:TAS appearing and all. Because if you say dub-likers aren't cool, then you're saying LittleKuriboh isn't cool, and that? That's just not cool, man. XD I love Ryou in any form, and I love Bristish accents, so Brit!Ryou makes me very happy.

5) HI I LOVE YOU. :D:D I've been waiting for Labyrinth to come in at the library; apparently many people want to see it right now. I want to see pretty David Bowie!~ And I expect I'll want to draw goblin!Ryou after seeing it, no. 8D
