August Update

Well, after the two previous months of weather and health-threat drama, August has been fairly tame. We went almost a week without major rain storms, and the ones Friday, Sunday morning, and this morning weren't that horrendous; Daughter is working on that final half-credit for graduation; Husband had a pleasant week's vacation at home; and friend Bruce has a job again after eight months of unemployment.
Garter snakes that are smaller than a pencil squiggling across the driveway and disapperaing into the retaining wall are cute. Garter snakes over a foot long and big around as a garden hose squiggling across the living room floor -- are not.
Got to grill again Saturday -- wire grill brush the best investment so far this summer, makes cleaning the racks SO much easier! The pole beans in the garden are just about finished; the patio plant has given us lots of delicious golden grape tomatoes perfect for salads, but the regular tomato plants haven't hit their stride yet. I'm a bit disapointed with the purple peppers -- they've produced nicely but the color is only skin deep, unlike the orange, yellows, and reds. Our next door neighbor has given us several nice sized zucchini and half a dozen fresh beets!
Trying very hard NOT to be jealous of NeaDods, Jelliclekat, Fyrdrako and Myaibou for their recent travels.... I've got a week's vacation coming up myself and the original plan was to take Daughter down to Nashville to see her boyfriend as a Graduation present -- except she hasn't graduated yet.... on the other hand, EricStuart-sama is supposed to be in concert down there in October...right around the time of Daughter's birthday.... hmmmmm......
We've been watching anime in the evenings lately, because there's very little worth watching on the networks. Last week it was 'Code:Geas, R2 -Part 1'; week before it was 'Master Keaton', a surprisingly gentle and enjoyable series. Not quite what we'd expected from the preview trialers, but then neither was 'Licensed by Royalty'. This week is 'DNAngel' and possibly 'Rurouni Kenshin'... hurrah for the vast anime library in our front closet (don't tell my mom!) There is actually a purpose to this; we're trying to weed out some of the excess, as in 'bought it, but didn't like it' or 'okay on the first viewing, just so-so on repeats', and of course there are the 'Wow, this is MUCH better/makes SO much more sense the second time around' ones. And playing 'Name that Voice Actor' is always fun!
Looks like it's gonna be a hot n' humid one today. I'd better get to work now. Ciao!
