Gah!!! For some one who claims to not like wearing socks on a regular basis, the Daughter certainly has enough dirty ones lurking under her bed --- I think I have discovered the whereabouts of Husband's most recent package of tube socks (which disappeared almost over night!).

Daughter in currently in Texas (nowhere near Houston and the coast, btw) visiting her Boyfriend.  She scrimped and saved as much as possible, ever since Christmas (we thought she was saving for a new PS4 module), and shortly after Anime-not-so-amazing this July, she informed me that she had crunched the numbers and thought she could pull it off with a minimum of assistance.

I made the mistake of suggesting AmTrak instead of Greyhound.... oh, hey! that works even better!!!

I pointed out that New Boyfriend had messed up the courting protocols: he is supposed to come HERE first, at least once, before even considering her crossing half the country to visit....Heck, she never visited Previous Boyfriend W.  in California, and he visited and spent time with us TWICE, a week each time and we even went to an anime convention together --  I liked him.

She pointed out that BOYFRIEND Z. has a full-time job, and is attending Community College classes, and can't take time off easily. Whereas she is still only part-time employed.  And that she has the money NOW. Oh, and btw, she IS an Adult, and doesn't really need permission.

So.  She still needed my help to get to the nearest AmTrak.  So after some discussion, it was settled. She left last Friday afternoon; and entertained us for the rest of the evening with commentary on the route, the dining car, a dragon-shaped cloud in the sky halfway through Missouri via her SmartPhone -- then called us at 6:36 Saturday a.m. to let us know that she had arrived safely, and BFZ was there to pick her up at the train station as promised.  She's generally been checking in a minimum of twice a day, although yesterday afternoon we had a long, sporadic text conversation about whether a certain 'dollar store' chain carried cookie baking sheets.

While she's gone, though ..... her room is getting cleaned. Husband has threatened to hire a back-hoe.  I told him better to hire a 'cherry-picker' lift truck so we can remove those last big branches from the Wildlife Refuge tree safely, without people falling off ladders, garage roofs, or branches landing on next-door-neighbor's soon to be built shed sometime next winter when the ice storms hit.

Gad! I went home at lunch, made the mistake of looking under the bed again --- They've MULTIPLIED!

The Daughter starts Week Three  of her part-time job tomorrow. She has complained about sore feet, and heavy bolts of fleece material, and a sore cutting hand, and a co-worker who is a  frequent No-Call No-Show who might be getting the axe soon, and her weird work schedule,  but she seems to enjoy stocking and cash register work.  Her bank debit card showed up yesterday (Saturday).  We shopped and she now has a phone (Husband added her to the family plan) and a watch of her very own, so I get mine back --Whooppee!

On a sad note, the used book store on our side of the River shut down.  Fortunately, the 90+ dollars of credit I'd built up transferred over to the sister store in Davenport.  This is why I prefer to take the cash at the used video store, even though it's a lesser amount than if I chose credit -- too many times I've built up credit, only to have the vendor go out of business.

Okay.  I promised Lucidscreamer a recipe for no-bake pumpkin/pudding pie.  Keep in mind, please, that this is FROM MEMORY, since I long ago lost the magazine I found it in originally -- but I've made it often enough that I think it's reasonably accurate.  MAY NEED TWEAKING!!!

1) Prepare  two deep-dish bottom crusts of your dietary preference/needs. Bake (or not) accordingly.

2) in a Large mixing bowl, 16 oz. softened low-fat cream cheese, 1/2 can of pumpkin pack, and spices -- 2 tsp of pumpkin pie spice, or a mixture of  ground cloves, nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger and/or allspice.  If you have a standing bowl mixer, use that until evenly blended.

3) Slowly add  two boxes of low-fat, no/low sugar instant pudding ( white chocolate, vanilla, or chocolate) and three to 3 - 1/2 cups low fat or skim milk and mix at medium speed.

4) Scrape into cooled pie shells and refrigerate for at least two hours before serving.

5) Top with whipped dairy or non-dairy topping of your choice. Enjoy!

Note: There is a 'Pumpkin Spice' pudding flavor, in which case you might want to skip the spices in Step 2; however, I don't know if it comes in Low/No Fat, so use your discretion.  The original recipe used Chocolate pudding, but I thought that was odd, so substituted white chocolate and vanilla.

My Dad, who was on a low-fat, low sugar diet due to Hypertension and Diabetes gave this pie "Two Thumbs UP!" when I brought it for Thanksgiving and Christmas.

There I was this noon, eating lunch with Husband, Daughter, Step-daughter and her Husband with casual conversation about yard sales (of which their are TONS today and SD/SSiL's moving plans (they are storing some things in our garage, which is why they were here), when suddenly the left side of my face and part of my left hand went numb ...one of my more annoying pre-migraine symptoms.... so I said something to the effect of  'oops, impending migraine, gonna go lie done for a bit' -- BUT that was NOT what came out of my mouth.....And I could tell that I was speaking garbledy..... tried again, same thing.....  Tried again, same thing.....

Thoughts running through my head -- Migraine.... oh SHIT, micro-stroke? ---Oddball Migraine symptom like that poor newscaster a couple of years ago? .....  low blood sugar episode?... so I stood up, took a Migraine Strength Excedrin, waved reassuringly to worried looking family, and went into the bedroom and lay down for a few minutes. ... tested my speech skills, determined that I was no longer Pentecostal (i.e. 'speaking in tongues'), and went back to kitchen & family, where I was able to clearly explain what I thought was happening. Since I recovered so quickly. I'm inclined to believe either the Oddball Migraine symptom or the Low  Blood Sugar theory.

Doing fine now, but like I said, unnerving.... When I take Daughter to see her Neurologist later this month for her annual check-up and prescription renewal, I will ask him if he will accept me as a patient too... MY migraines have been infrequent and pretty much under control for the past 20+ years, but this is a new twist and I would like a professional opinion.....

If it's not one thing, it's another..... sigh. And things were going so smoothly this year.....

Well, it's been a little while. Firstly, Thank you all for the kind birthday wishes, especially Andrea and Leslie with the LJ prezzies. I had to wait until I went back to work, so I could view them properly with the DSL connection -- THANK YOU!!!! Much Love to everyone!

I had taken a three-day vacation: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.... I took Daughter to the doctor to get a re-fill on her Imitrex and ended up on antibiotic for a sinus infection, slept in, renewed my driver's license, had lunch with Pastor Mary during which we wished each other a 'Happy Birthday' and swapped daydreams of winning the Lottery and touring England, Wales & Scotland; I e-mailed my youngest sister and wished HER a Happy B-Day, e-mailed my mom, talked to the Splendid Vet again about Bel's ligaments and made an advance payment for the surgery (Big Sis: the reference is from the book 'One Hundred and One Dalmatians' by Dodie Smith! amazing what stick in the memory sometimes....), watched anime (Kyo Kara Maoh, Mushishi, Shonen no Myoshi, Eight Clouds Rising, Princess/Princess), ate cake and generally lazed recuperating while I could.... and it was a good thing, too.

Lunchtime, Friday September 28th -- I got into my car intending to run some errands and maybe pick up some accessories for Daughter's hair to go with her positively GORGEOUS homecoming dress (Homecoming Dance on Saturday) and drove approx. 1/quarter of a mile when the roaring sound that both Husband and I believed to be my exhaust system going bad suddenly got horrendously worse, and my car wouldn't go any faster than 25 mph. I managed to turn around and limped the car back to the church parking lot. So much for lunch. Luckily I keep emergency supplies in the office cupboard. Eventually, we (husband and I working together via cellphones)had my poor Buick towed to a transmission repair shop; unfortunately they couldn't get to it Friday afternoon....

Daughter was STUNNING Saturday night -- She said she had to use her harisen (japanese paper fan) to fend off the guys!

Alas, Monday Daughter was running a fever, coughing, voiceless, earache, headache, etc..... I kept her home from school, but went to work planning to ask one of the Elders (who used to be our next door neighbor) if he'd be willing to give us a ride to the doctor's sometime during the day. Also, nagging the Transmission shop.....Bad news. My transmission was TOAST. It could be replaced/rebuilt, minimum $1,150 - Maximum $2,000+.
Thank GHOD for teh Shiny....(pets teh Shiny).... Good News: Pastor Joyce offered the loan of her car as long as she got it back before 4 pm. Semi-Bad News: Daughter has a Sinus Infection (proabably caught it from me the week before), needs antibiotics (of course -- she can't possibly just use what's left of mine), medicated nasal spray, etc. More Bad News when I got back to work: Transmission is BURNT TOAST at $1,875, and I won't get it back until Thursday (October 4th) which is also Daughter's birthday. Daughter is bummed, I'm bummed, Husband (who is exhausted from 65 hr work weeks!) is bummed. Also coming up is the end of the school quarter and Daughter has projects due AND a Choir Concert Wednesday!

Fortunately, the projects are mostly finished and Daughter can work on them at home in between bouts of fever and coughing. I spent a lot of Tuesday e-mailing the appropriate teachers and explaining the situation, all of whom are understanding including the Choir Director who agrees that if Daughter has no voice, she can submit a report on Mozart in lieu of participating in the Concert. Daughter e-mails Project docs to the Teachers Wednesday afternoon, and that's pretty much taken care of.
Thursday.... I get my car back (and there is much rejoicing)!!!!!!

Low Key Birthday for Daughter....I got her a couple of cosplay items from Hot Topic, Husband got her some PS2 games she wanted, Bel 'gave' her the new 'NightWish' cd.....

And Husband gave us a joint birthday present, since they're only two weeks apart -- we HAVE DSL!!!!!!!

Woot!!!!!!!!

and *whew* Do NOT want another week like THAT!!!!

But teh Shiny is in pain... which means any chance of my sneaking off to the D.C. SlashBash this coming weekend has dropped from highly unlikely to absolutely no way, Jose......

*sniffle*

Wails LOUDLY!!!! --- I wanted to meet 'dontwanttosaygb' and jump in the Ted BED!!!!!! I wanted to talk BBM-Boyz with Jess and Marijke, and Tes, and beth, and EVERYONE!!!!!

*sniffle*

oh fraggitt....
