Anime-Zing Report, Part I
Jun. 19th, 2010 02:24 pmOkay -- came home for lunch and a short nap maybe....not much that I'm interested in until 3:00.
First off, The Lodge Hotel is a very picturesque location for romantic getaways or banquets or business convention, not so good for a genre convention. The lay out is very confusing, panel rooms are small, narrow hallways. It seems to be working this time, but if the organizers are expecting bigger crowds in coming years, they will need to look into another venue.
That said, they are making good use of the spaces they have. It IS a small convention; the organizers don't seem to be local but it's not a professional corporation like the infamous CREATIONS CON. Smallish 'Dealers Room' with mostly dvds, manga, t-shirts, figurines -- didn't see many 'fan' tables, as opposed to People who Sell for a Living.
Several rooms (well hidden) showing almost non-stop anime. Several others with gaming. Three main tracks of programming -- I attended a panel this morning with Johnny Yong Bosch and the EyeShine (band) about how to be a GOOD fangirl/boy at cons with voice actors (as opposed to being a STALKER Fangirl/Boy.... It was fairly entertaining, what I could hear of it (sound system was out of adjustment - oddly enough, I could understand them better when they DIDN'T use the microphone!) -- I'm looking forward to the concert tonight -- the other two tracks were a Martial Arts Demo, and a panel on Japanese Fashion. Because at least two of the guests were involved with MMPR, a lot of the programming is Power Rangers-themed. There were a couple of panels scheduled for last night (Friday) that I wish I'd been at; but Jethro chewed up my good work shoes and I had to go shopping instead -- AND THEN THE STORMS HIT!!!!
I've seen some very nice hall costumes, got a picture of a Jaden (Yu-Gi-OhGX) and a nice Last Air Bender costume (Kyoshin Warrior?) and will probably get more later this afternoon at the Masquerade. The Masquerade is scheduled for 4:00 pm, which is unusual; the concert is tonight at 7:00pm. I DO have a bit of a costume, but I can't decide if I'm Ryuuichi from 'Gravitation' or an adult Loki from 'Mythical Detective Ragnarok'
More later.
