Finally ...
Jul. 3rd, 2019 02:04 pm Ok, everything is supposedly arranged. Father-in-Law's ashes will be interred at the National Cemetery (he was a veteran, before the Witnesses got a hold of him) next Wednesday and the memorial service will be Saturday, July 13th at the Kingdom Hall.
So why the delay? As best I can make out: the week F-i-L passed away, 1) one of the really high ranking JW officials was visiting, which meant NOTHING ELSE could happen until he left, and 2) it takes a while to arrange interment at a National Cemetery (yeah, okay .... good thing he was cremated, then...)
This current week: 1) well, the holiday, you know..... (hmmm, and here I was under the impression that Witnesses didn't observe holidays, so to speak...), and 2) their particular Hall is used by 3 separate groups, so they had to find a day and time when no one was scheduled to use it... (Okay, being as I'm pretty much in charge of scheduling building use here at 1st Presby, I can buy that....)
I don't know, though.... One of their Long-time (over 60 years!), highly respected Elders passes away and it takes them 2 and a half weeks to properly bury the man... WTF? ... But then I'm just a lapsed Lutheran leaning towards Presbyterianism..... practically a Pagan, don't y'know?
Of course, keep in mind that as of 3 weeks ago I'm practically in charge here, while the Admin & Personnel and Worship committees go running around trying to line up pulpit supply and possible Interims for the next year or so, at the last minute even though they've known since mid-April that Pastor was retiring at the end of June....
Getting verry soggy here in the Midwest.
