After almost a week of High Heat Index warnings from the National Weather Service, during which it did rain once thereby pumping up the humidity again, yesterday (Sunday) was actually cooler! SO we went out and hacked at the pile of tree branches some more.  Reduced it by maybe half, but still a bunch to go. It's halfway decent today as well; too bad we have an after dinner appointment this evening.

Anyway, yesterday, after a cool-down break, we took a little shopping jaunt -- socks, underwear, work boots, etc, and wound up at DISC REPLAY's 'Going Out of Business/Consolidating With Iowa Location' sale.  I'm going to blame the fact that [personal profile] rhi  has been posting  comments regarding her watching selected episodes/seasons of HIGHLANDER recently for my impulse purchase  of a 2nd - maybe 3rd-hand set of Season 2 on DvD.

Not certain how long my sense of nostalgia will last.  Never did finish watching THE RAVEN when I picked that up a couple of years ago.

On the other hand, I FINALLY finished reading "Pride and Prejudice", by Jane Austin.  For several years it has been one of my 'unofficial' New Year's resolutions to actually read some Jane Austin, as one of my currently M.I.A.  LJ friends had started drifting away from media fandom to spend more time and energy with literary interests.  Believe it or not, as an English Major, I had never read any Jane Austin.  I read "Jane Eyre" for a high school book report back in the 70's ---during my high school years I systematically read through a 'Recommended Reading" list of classics which included "Lorna Doone", "Ivanhoe", "The Count of Monte Cristo", etc.  My best friend liked Georgette Heyer, which I never really got into; likewise Dorothy Sayers, but between us we manged to check out and read every Agatha Christie and James Bond novel in our local library.... but I digress. It took a while; I had a hard time wrapping my head around the social conventions of the period, but I persevered. [personal profile] neadods , this one is for you!!!! SALUD!!!!

I have also finished the 'Shades of Blue' triangular shawl I started waaaay back around Easter, and am now cursing myself for changing yarns so often, because I hate weaving in the ends.  I also ended up re-teaching myself how to crochet in order to finish the edging properly.  Going to take a little break from knitting, maybe to start up again in September with hats and mittens and socks....

See you on the flip side!

1. The one who seduced you, screwed you over, broke your heart in a million pieces, and laughed about it.

HIGHLANDER:TS. I will NEVER forgive TPTB for not only killing off Richie, but for the way they did it and then rubbed our faces in it! Repeatedly. And adding insult to injury, murdering Connor in "Highlander 4" --- lalalalalala, I'm in De-niiiiii-allllll, card-carrying member even.....
but I survived, thanks to [livejournal.com profile] gryphonrhi's fiction list. *hugs rhi*

2. The old flame you don't see very often any more but whom you still really enjoy getting together with for a few drinks and maybe a pleasant nostalgic romp.

AIRWOLF. We had good times -- actually had two stories published in fanzines, and made a long-distance friend with whom I'm still keep in touch...

3. The mysterious dark one whom you used to sit up with talking until 3 AM at weird coffee houses and with whom you were quite smitten until you realized s/he really was crazy.

FARSCAPE, maybe. Possibly THE SHADOW.

4.The one you spent a whole weekend in bed with and who drank up all your liquor and whom you'd still really like to get with again, although you're relieved s/he doesn't actually live in town.

SHERLOCK

5. The steady.

DOCTOR WHO -- before the others, still going after so many years.

6.The alluring stranger whom you've flirted with at parties but have never gotten really serious with.

BABYLON 5, I think.

7.The one you hang out with and have vague fantasies about maybe having a thing with, but ultimately you're just good buddies.

STARGATE:SG-1. I loved the original series, ever through the whole 'Daniel is Ascended/No He's alive, again.... but right around the whole 'Search for Atlantis' thing I lost interest. STARGATE:ATLANTIS didn't float my boat past the pilot, and STARGATE:UNIVERSE??? oh, puh-leeze....

8.The one your friends keep introducing you to and who seems like a heck of a cool person except it's never really gone anywhere.

THE SENTINAL, ROBIN OF SHERWOOD, QUANTUM LEAP, and the DISCWORLD books. I've dabbled, enjoyed, but they never really grabbed my fannish interest.

9. The one who gave you the best summer of your life and against whom you measure all other potential partners.

THE REAL GHOSTBUSTERS - Some of my best fan friendships came either from or were enriched while part of this fandom. And it's endured, almost as well as the Doctor.

10. The one you recently met at a party and would like to get to know better.

SHERLOCK ??

11. The one who stole your significant other.
BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN effectively eclipsed all others for about two and a half years.... and still lingers.... sadly nostalgic, re-appearing unexpectedly after a long absence... don't know how to quit this one, gotta stand it.

12. The old flame that you wouldn't totally object to hooking up with again for a one night romp if only they'd clean up a bit.

Like [livejournal.com profile] myaibou this is really the only place I can fit YU-GI-OH! The constant card duels and posturing of the protagonists gets tiresome, but there are some good characters and development underneath the noise. And there are some super special awesome people in the fandom, too!

13. The one you should have broken up with before they got arrested for stealing your TV and selling it on eBay.

This one has to be BLAKE'S SEVEN....made me super-cautious about subsequent fandoms with 'friendly, fan-knowledgeable, accessible' actors/producers, and to this day the concept of RPF makes me uneasy.

14.The one you're glad you broke up with early enough that you can still remember her/him fondly rather than as the subject of that embarrassing tabloid story with which her/his name is now irrevocably linked.

FOREVER KNIGHT, although that wasn't really by choice; TORCHWOOD also comes to mind -- Clan Denial has a Cardiff branch these days, I understand...

15.The one you had a torrid and exciting group thing with that was fun and interesting and exciting...until it just got old and a little boring (but you still look back on fondly).

STAR WARS, mainly because of the role-playing group I joined up with; I wonder if they still get together at MEDIAWEST*Con for blaster-battles?

16. Your hot new flame.

Don't really have one at the moment. NCIS isn't new, or particularly hot, but I like it. Haven't really fan-crushed on any anime for a while. In the literature department ??? Dunno. Maybe Fowler's "Peculiar Crimes Unit" novels comes close.
