NOBODY switched over to Daylight Saving Time when our esteemed lawmakers decreed?

Recent studies have shown that instead of SAVING energy, like what was supposed to happen, energy usage has actually INCREASED during DST over the past ten years due to longer daylight hours and widespread AC use during the hotter months of the year!

Me, I'd gotten used to there being daylight (barely) in the mornings when I woke up (on those occasions when there actually was sunshine instead of precipitation-threatening clouds)- LOL!

But seriously, what if Congress declared DST and no one complied? Would BUSHCHENEY call out the National Guard (what's left of it, considering most of it got sent to Iraq)? Implement 'Emergency Domestic Terrorism' measures?

Something to ponder....

A great idea! This DST thing is so dumb.

Sorry to disagree, but as a serious non-morning person, I love DST because there's light when I'm up and it lasts into the evening. If it were up to me we'd be on DST year-round.

No need to be sorry, I'm not a morning person either! I just seriously dislike being told that Oh-Dark-hundred is now to be considered 'morning' just because our fearless congressmen have so decreed!--- if they would just settle on a schedule, instead of this yearly back and forth nonsense....

That's exactly why Arizona doesn't observe DST. The last thing you want in the desert in the summer is MORE daylight. (And we like our daylight in the morning, when it's still cool.)

Farmers hate it

... because they wind up doing unavoidable morning work in the dark for more months than otherwise. And yes, I saw the economic study you cite... I'm not at all surprised.

Personally, I don't care that much, just pick one and stick with it... I'll get up at the butt-crack of dawn no matter what the clock says!

Aha! That explains it then.... I'm not a farmer, but I grew up in a farming community and currently live in a major farm industry area... I dislike DST through osmosis!

(That, and I HATE getting up in the dark!)

I don't *mind* the dark (and I see in the dark like a vampire :) but.... I've noticed that if I get to actually SEE the sun come up over the horizon, it gives me a big positive energy boost. Helps my whole day!!

(And even if I wasn't a morning person, at least when I get enough sleep ... the dogs insist that once the sun becomes a fantasy a mere 3 states to the east, it's time to get up.)

In fact this is so important to me, that in searching for real estate, I won't consider anyplace that lacks a long plains-type view of the eastern and western horizons.
