Migraine + Lazy Spouse + Fast Food =???

Sigh. Last Wednesday I came home from work at the end of the day with migraine, and informed Husband that he and daughter were on their own for supper, and that there were pre-cooked hamburgers from the weekend and hotdogs in the Fridge and possibly some Lean Cuisine entrees in the freezer if Daughter hadn't eaten them already as a midnight snack, but I was going to bed with an Imetrex. Silly me! Naturally, even though Husband had been complaining about how empty his billfold/checking account was thanks to an unexpected car window repair the previous week, they went to the Scottish restaurant.....
Fast forward roughly four hours: Migraine mostly vanquished, I've been drinking egg-drop soup and noshing on left-over McD french fries and the nine o'clock local news comes on..... BREAKING NEWS!!! The County Health Department has closed down the local McD's because it seems to be one of the hot-spots for the Hepatitis A outbreak that we are just now hearing about.....
*FACE PALMS*
So all weekend there's been conflicting reports as to the number of confirmed cases in the county and a few in the surrounding areas..... and No one seems to know what should happen, or what possibly infected persons should do.... and then Sunday it comes out that at least one of the McD's employees had been diagnosed back in JUNE....Finally this morning the County Health Board announced a clinic for people who had eaten at the suspected/infected restaurant (which is now re-opened for business after a thorough cleaning/sterilization) since the beginning of July.... which includes me, Husband and Daughter. Ugh!

Date: 2009-07-20 02:31 pm (UTC)A lot of the area farmers, etc. get their Friday night groceries at the Hy-Vee in town and McD's is convenient for pre- and post-shopping supper/snacks....
A couple of Daughter's classmates work there, too. And one of the Day-Care people from up the road was diagnosed Friday. The person in June was apparently treated at a local hospital and for some reason the hospital sent the infectious disease report to the CDC office across the river in IOWA???? DWAH?????
I'd *HeadDesk*, but I don't want another migraine. I need a *facepalm* icon....

Yeah, /definitely/ good it wasn't elsewhere, but STILL...
I can remember a story of two high school girls who were practically /begging/ to be allowed to go home sick, but the management refused to let them (understaffed at the time, iono - I think they threatened to fire the girls if they did leave, though) so the girls were left to taking turns throwing up in the bathroom between filling orders or something like that. I...wanna say that was a McD's too. I know it was a place /just/ down from the school, and the only one is the McD's on the corner.
Personally, you couldn't PAY me to eat at a McD's anymore, and been that way for a few years now. EVERY time I go to one, no matter /which/ one, what I get seems like it was thrown together haphazardly in a few distracted seconds, and looks and /tastes/ like it's been sitting for three days. Every time.
Sorry....end rant.

Date: 2009-07-21 06:57 pm (UTC)TV Crew was out there asking people if they'd go back and eat at McD's 'Ground Zero'.... D'oH! after a three-day cleaning and sterilization procedure, it's probably the SAFEST place to eat in town!
