Last Week.... the words I have are mostly incoherent and/or profane, but I'll try.
The thing is, I was feeling pretty smug on the 29th, having scored SHERLOCK, 'Hamlet' with David Tennant and Patrick Stewart, and the 1978 version of 'The Scottish Play' featuring Ian McKellan (why yes, I AM a bit of a British Theatre geek!), so I was a happy little BritLit camper thanks to the B & N DvD Sale, until....
Monday morning, Jan 31st: Daughter wakes me up at 6 am (husband has already left for work an hour earlier); she's been vomiting all night, killer migraine, and NOTHING is staying down(including her medication) because of the vomiting. Okay. A trip to the ER seems to be required -- this is not the big suck, despite the $100 co-pay. It's early enough that there's a good chance we'll get in and out fairly quick, might even make it to work on time... EXCEPT. While locking the back door (which is a sliding glass patio door), my key gets stuck in the lock. This sometimes happens, especially in winter, so I slip the kep off my keyring and leave it in the lock, figuring that when we come back I'll stop at the local convenience store and pick up a can of 'Lock Unfreeze'. Things go quickly at the ER, Daughter's feeling better (if a bit woozy), pick up de-icer, get home, squirt the lock -- yay! Key turns and comes out. But door is still locked and the hellhounds (Bel & Jethro) are pawing at the door.... put key back in lock and try to unlock... no go. Turns the other way just fine... and turns and turns and turns.... The Lock Is Broken. And guess what? This happens to be the ONLY DOOR I have a key for.... and we, alas, are not lucky enough to find one of the three other doors into the house unlocked.
Much wailing, tearing of hair and gnashing of teeth ensues. Also frantic text messages to Husband asking if he perchance has a key to any of the other doors, otherwise we will need a LOCKSMITH before the day is over. Daughter comes up to the church with me and sacks out in the lounge, while I go about my Monday morning routine in between calls to and from husband re: locksmiths and the possibility that Father-in-Law might still have a key....
Long Story Short: I ended up driving across the river to pick up an assortment of about two dozen keys from F-n-L, one of which, thank GOD, WORKED on the side door, released the hounds, took Daughter home, then drove back to return the other keys... And Husband got on the phone with the door manufacturer and ordered a new lock for the door (still under warranty!!!). But -- lot of the work I planned to get done Monday, didn't. Oh well, get to it on Tuesday...
HaH!!!!!!
