Still alive, although it feels like I'm meeeeeellllllttinnnngggggg....

(stupid Mid-West Summer Heat & Humidity)

1) Godric (my gorgeous Folkmanis Gryphon puppet) has become semi-permanently perched on the back of a living room chair and has acquired a hemp and bead macrame choker to help distinguish him from Fleur if they ever occupy the same room again. Am half-heartedly looking for an appropriate charm to add between the two lapis-lazuli-looking beads in front.

2) Finished the lovely Bernat's Mosaic yarn shawl I was knitting during DuckCon just before Father' Day. A week later I gave it away as a 'Get Well' gift to our church's VBS director, who had gone into the hospital for tests for meningitis but it turned out to be a brain tumor and as of last Thursday the East Coast surgeon was thinking there was a good probability he could operate and get most of it and chemo/radiation therapy should take care of the rest, but no decision had been made yet. Jane and her husband Bill are Good People; really and truly praying that it goes well.

3) Spent much too much money Father's Day Weekend on presents for Husband, manga and DvDs -- notably 'John Carter', 'Sherlock Holmes: Game of Shadows', and 'Sherlock: Series Two'. STILL have not seen "The Avengers"...

4)Successfully knitted TWO of the "Blink" pattern washcloths! Two years ago I tried and failed spectacularly to make one -- I think maybe at the time I was trying too hard (wanted to give one to Margaret - sweetest little old lady in our church! - for her 100th birthday)and I didn't really have the experience with complex stitch patterns. Margaret turns 102 in August; I think I will make one more and give her the two prettiest.

5) Have paid two-thirds of the pharmaceutical bill for Daughter's migraine treatment in JANUARY.
It takes them FOUR MONTHS to send us an invoice, and they want it all within the next two weeks!
Excuse me? Our last name isn't Gates, Buffet, Rockefeller or Romney -- we don't carry $1000+ around as pocket change. Invoice was dated the 15th, we received it on the 19th, they wanted their money by the 1st. They'll get the rest from my next paycheck - after I've paid the utilities and made my car payment for the month. Wonder when the bill from Daughter's APRIL treatment will turn up? Ugh.

6)Finally read CRYOBURN. Enjoyed it. Classic Miles razzle-dazzle. Liked Jin and his menagerie. Good supporting characters. Enjoyed seeing Mark and Kareen again. but OH! the Aftermath drabbles, especially #5 with Gregor.... I think it took me so long to read 'Cryoburn' because 'Diplomatic Immunity' had been something of a disappointment. Now I can't wait to read the Ivan book....

In progress: rebuilding the Mudroom porch. Floor and steps are done, new screen/storm door installed. Still working on the railings.

Eldest Sister Dear, when are you coming to visit again?
