not_hathorMy Dad passed away this morning. He'd had a minor stroke three weeks ago and was first in hospital then a nursing home for care and physical therapy. Mom was a bit concerned, because he was not responding and coming back as well as he has in the past..Because of the horrid weather and an nasty cold on my part, I hadn't been able to visit since ??? Then mid-last week, Dad developed pneumonia and was back in the hospital. Last Sunday, (two days ago) I figured I was mostly over the cold and not likely to infect Dad, so I drove out for a visit. I'm glad I did --
Mom called this morning a bit after 6 a.m. -- She said I didn't need to come out -- my youngest sister is with her, and the other two are close by.
But Pastor Joyce said they can manage without me for a few days, so I think I will go this afternoon (90 minute drive) and stay the night. Dad will be cremated, and a service later when the weather is better.
For years our family had a joke about Dad's birthday blizzard (end of January); in fact, it was because of the Birthday Blizzard that I met my future husband (couldn't make it home from college that weekend) -- it figures that it would snow the night before....
I wish I had a stronger faith in a Supreme Creator Being -- it would be such a comfort right now....
