The Good News:  Mom made it through her hip surgery in July with flying colors; did rehab and physical therapy, was walking good, had been cleared to drive by herself, and last week her doctor declared that her x-rays looked good and that things were A-OK....

The Bad News: Last Sunday (four days ago), Mom rolled over in bed, and dislocated the hip. She was able to call 9-1-1, then me. She was taken to the local hospital's ER, where the doctor -on-call was able to pop the hip back into place. Because she lives alone and Younger Sister was out of town (out of State, actually!) judging a cat show and Older Sister has her own medical difficulties, and Youngest Sister living in Texas , the Doctor want to keep Mom overnight, "just in Case" --- which was a good thing, because that night while getting ready for bed, the hip dislocated again -- and this time the doctor couldn't get it re-set. Mom and I had already made plans for me to come out Monday, originally to take her home; so I did, but because of the complications, eventually, Mom was transported Tuesday evening back up to Loyolla-Maywood, where she'd had the hip work done originally. Yesterday, her Orthopedic surgeon tried to re-set her hip, and again there were complications.  Today, she is supposed to have surgery  again: best case scenario,  the socket and knob just need a tweak; worse case scenario, Mom will need another full hip replacement. Worst case -- not going to think about....

So. Damn good thing I took this week of vacation; this is not what I had it mind for it, for sure.  Right now, carrying my cell phone  everywhere with handy pen and notebook in case Mom and/or Doctor calls with instructions. Daughter and I are going for carry-out for my Birthday lunch today since I might be spending Saturday in the Chicago suburbs.  Because Younger Sister was out of state at a cat show, she is self-quarantined for 2 weeks.  Older Sister is not good with emergencies, and like I said, has her own health problems.  So I'm IT, unless Youngest Sister decides 'the hell with it' and makes a 12 hour drive from Texas by herself....

God, I'm exhausted.

ETA: Mom is out of surgery.  Doctor re-replaced the hip socket liner, and thinks that will do the trick.  Mom will be in hospital through the weekend, with possible release on Monday or Tuesday (hoping Tuesday, because I have to be back at work on Monday for Session mtg -  but can probably take Tuesday off to bring her home.) The next 8 weeks are going to be Deja Vu!!!!

So far I've ordered Onglyza for me, and two different joint care supplements for Bel. That's not counting the heart-worm preventative for both Bel and Jethro which I will pick up from the vet at lunchtime today.

Mom fell on Monday; landed wrong against some furniture and broke a rib. She blames the malfunctioning artificial hip, which was supposed to be repaired back in March but got pushed back due to the COVID-19 thing because it was considered non-essential surgery. It was supposed to happen next week; now it looks to being postponed again for another month. This makes the 3rd time this month she's fallen because that leg is dragging. I worry because she's 90 and lives alone.  I was supposed to go out and stay with her next week after the surgery while she did rehab.  Now we don't know what's going to happen. Youngest sister in Texas is talking about driving north to stay for a couple of days as well ...

Been catching up on "Kyo Kara Maoh"  English manga scanlations --  wow, there's a lot that I don't remember from the anime! When we re-organized our anime shelves last winter, I discovered that I seem to be missing some episodes; I don't know whether they were lost/damaged during the move  10+ years ago, or if we never had them in the first place.  They were released back when anime was first becoming widely available in the U.S.; most anime series were released on DVDs that held 3, maybe 4 episodes, so a series that ran 26 episodes would be on 6 or 7 DvDs, each sold separately  -- so it was always tricky finding the entire series.  Later on, of course, the producers started selling combo packs and thin-paks.  When I had the money, I'd often replace my multiple DvDs, especially if it was a series I enjoyed and anticipated watching over and over.  I have incomplete sets of the first and second series of KKM, and have recently learned that both are now available again in combo packs, as well as series 3 and possibly 4? Alas, still on frugality measures, as most of the family stimulus check went to pay off half the property taxes this year.

The church has been holding Sunday worship in the parking lot the last two weeks; the forecast for this coming Sunday is 'scattered showers', so I'm not sure what the plan will be..... in the meantime I've worked ahead in anticipation of taking next week off to help Mom, so again -- not certain how things will work out.

Knitting: -- finished the 'leaf motif' shawl, including the borders and the beaded fringe. Haven't decided on my next project yet.
