The week was going so well; major progress on the moving, four tricky wall panels installed in what will be the Library,Daughter had actually managed to attend a FULL week of school without getting sick...

And then yesterday.... NIU....

I was born in DeKalb. My mother was born in DeKalb. My grandparents lived in DeKalb and I used to visit them there. My older sister did post graduate studies in both the Geology and English departments....I knew some of the teachers, one of my longtime friends teaches at NIU.

Why? Why can't the madness leave me and mine ALONE?

AT least we know that Sue is all right; we talked to her mom last night, who talked to her after the lock-down was lifted.

(I'm not even gonna talk about the Trailer and the effing water meter)


ETA: oh, and did I mention that one of the deceased victims was from my hometown? I think I went to High School with her aunt....

School shootings (which are hardly new; there are some on record from the mid-1800s) are NOT "violence". They are loud, messy SUICIDES. The idea is to "make everyone else suffer as much as they made ME suffer", and then to literally go out with a bang that no one can fail to notice (and just because they don't always put the gun to their own head doesn't mean that wasn't the goal. Look up "suicide by cop".)

Sad that it hit so close to home, tho :(
