Abandon all sanity, ye who enter here!

Cardiff – September 2nd

"Oh. You're closed up for the day, then."

Gwen turned, and found herself facing the pale-haired youth they'd noticed earlier on the plaza with his two companions. From the snatches of overheard conversation, the team had decided the three young men were probably Japanese although only the shortest conformed in any way to the traditional oriental appearance. Gwen had felt a bit of a pang upon hearing the fluid semi-familiar syllables, remembering the rare occasion when Tosh would lapse into her native tongue. It seemed though that the speculation might have been wrong, because while the boy's speech was oddly hesitant, his accent was pure Midlands.

“Yes, I'm sorry.” The lad's expression was quite crest-fallen, and she added quickly, “If it's something particular you needed to know, I could maybe help?”

The young man glanced over towards his waiting companions. The taller brunet shrugged, as if it were all the same to him, whereas the shorter, younger lad with the black hair nodded encouragingly.

“If it's not too much trouble...” he started. “No one else seems to know – or if they do, they don't want to talk about it, so I thought maybe the Tourist Bureau....” He stopped, took a deep breath.

“Yes?”

“Do you...I'm....trying to find.... Torchwood?”

“I've got it, Gwen,” Jack's voice said in her ear, as she stared. And then the lad was looking over her shoulder towards the invisible lift and his expression was like the sun breaking out in all it's glory from behind the darkest clouds. Gwen turned back just in time to see Jack step off the pavement and stand with his arms wide and the oddest look on his face, apprehensive and hopeful and...

“Uncle!”

The pale lad took a step toward Jack, only to stop abruptly upon hear the near-simultaneous 'clicks' of three Torchwood-issue Glock's (including Gwen's) having their safety's offed.

“Hey!” Jack protested. Gwen shifted slightly so she could keep half an eye on the other two lads. The shorter black-haired boy's eyes widened in shock and he made as if to step forwards himself, only to be stopped by the others hand on a shoulder. The brunets eyes were narrow and angry-looking, and his other hand was reaching inside his coat. Gwen hissed slightly in concern before noting with a touch of pride and approval that Andy was also on top of the sitch, and had both covered.

“Seto, don't!”

“People, this isn't....”

The brunet addressed Gwen's new acquaintance with a long, liquid-sounding sentence in what she'd be willing to swear in court was Japanese – and not very polite Japanese, from the tone of it. Blondie replied briefly and decisively in the same language; the brunet (Seto?) removed an empty hand from his coat and let it fall to his side. But if looks could kill.....

“Okay, team, let's put the guns away,” Jack suggested firmly. “This is NOT the way to make a good impression on the tourists....”

“No offense, Sir,” Ianto returned, gun still steady and aimed at Blondie, “but the last time we had one of your relatives come visiting, half of Cardiff went up in flames..” As well as half of the team, Gwen remembered with a suppressed shudder. "We are preferring to be cautious." Jack sighed, and his shoulders slumped.

The tall brunet gave a short bark of laughter. “Is attempting to destroy the world a family tradition then, Ryou-kun?” he asked in perfectly good English.

“Nii-sama!” the younger boy hissed and jabbed his companion with an elbow.

'Ryou-Kun' groaned, and covered his face with his hands for a moment, before addressing the group at large. “Please forgive my companion's lack of manners. He has spent most of his life talking to computers and possesses almost no social skills as a result.” He looked up then with an expression of dawning comprehension and dread. “Oh dear. What has Grandmother done now?”

Obviously this is set after TW S2, and I have NO idea who will end up on the team, although I've seen fics that have Martha Jones, PC Andy and Mickey joining up.

Later!

(edited slightly to make Ianto sound less like he's channeling Owen!)

*giggles* Wait 'til we get to the part where Jack finally explains exactly how he and Ryou are related!

lol- "What has Grandmother done now?" You leave it there? Love the "Is attempting to destroy the world a family tradition then, Ryou-kun?" and Ryou's comment about Seto.

And, dang it, I like that idea of Stark Industries picking up Kaiba Corps dropped contracts-- it fits (and the whole talking to computers-- Tony and Kaiba would get along so well!)

*snerk*

This is the trip during which the Kaiba brothers had the displeasure of meeting Grandmother Pwyll; Seto was most definitely NOT impressed and Ryou was appalled at her rudeness (under the guise of 'proper' etiquette). Since That Woman made such a shambles of HIS life, poor Ryou's over-active imagination is working overtime as to what havoc she might have causes for his beloved 'Uncle Jamie'.

I'm a bit uneasy about Ianto -- he sounds rather more like Owen in this scene!

Yes, yes! I can just 'see' Seto and Tony swapping note about how to create a functional A.I. butler -- Tony ended up with Jarvis, while Seto has 'Sadie'.... and working out bugs in the holograms together!
