For the past month and a half, I've been 'experimenting' with a knitted glove pattern I found via the Beginning Knitter's community. I'm not a beginner, been knitting for years, my mom taught me in grade school, but I do have a bit of a phobia regarding anything too complicated -- like double-pointed needles, circular needles and cable stitch. I've knitted simple stuff for the most part; like hats, scarves, basic ponchos, a pullover vest once, and twice! actual honest to God sweaters..... all fairly basic knit-purl-increase-decrease.

But I wanted a bit of a change, so imagine my delight upon discovering a not-very-complicated knitted glove pattern. GLOVE, not mitten. I confess to wondering if it really was as simple as the creator claimed, but since I already had an assortment of needles and yarns, I figured I'd give a try...

Well, I tried it. The basic design works wonderfully well; it knits up really fast, consists of the basic knit stitch, binding off and increasing at the right spots to form the fingers, but I should have paid more attention to the creator's comments on the LJ entry about gauge and needle size and something about her (?) having unusually long & narrow fingers. Knitted one glove on 3mm needles, could see how it was supposed to work, but also that, well, it wasn't going to fit me. Frogged it. Knitted a second glove using 4 mm needles (the creator had suggested 3 to 5 mm, depending on how loose your knit tends to be -- mine's fairly tight); frogged that one too....Attempt #3 with 5 mm needles, ditto... seriously, no offense, but am wondering if the Glove designer might not be a member of the Asgaard (long & narrow -fingered aliens from "StarGate:SG-1") -- JK!!!!

Had kinda hoped to start a knitting project at the church using this glove design to make gloves for the local 'Teens Affirming Diversity' group (Daughter used to hang out with them last year when she was dating 'What'sHisName' and she still has friends who are part of that community -- I can never remember what order the initials go in, and I don't want to offend!); because every year they do a 'Mitten Tree' for the Grade School kids, but what about the Teens and Young Adults? Don't they get cold, too? Still might if I can tweak the design to fit normal human hands.... so Attempt #4 starts this weekend!

Wish me luck!
