Thirty Years Ago....
May. 9th, 2011 11:10 amI walked down the aisle of my College chapel; my best friend was waiting for me, along with a couple of other friends and my older sister *oddyssia*, and we got married. My parents and other sisters were also there;his parents and older half-brother were there, too, and maybe fifty to seventy five of Rabbit's friends and relations and co-workers as well....
Thirty years. Wow. I'm not entirely certain how we did it. I know it involved a lot of patience and give-and-take. I like to think the five Chows helped, as did the Daughter.
We didn't really consider the jusxtaposition with Mother's Day, or High School Prom season, although it's given us some amusement over the years watching increasingly younger-seeming couple go through the dress-up and dinner ritual.... and taking advantage of Mother's Day specials.
Since neither of us could get today off work, we celebrated Saturday and Sunday with a weekend getaway at a local hotel (Daughter stayed home with Bel & Jethro). We did a lot of Nothing all weekend -- slept in (no whiny Chows getting us up at 6:30 am), swam in the hotel pool, dined at a local midwest restaurant chain that apparently thinks 'Bourbon Street-style' cooking involves a ton of salt and pepper and enough rubbed sage to choke Louis L'Amour, and snickering quietly at the tuxedo-ed trio buying ice cream at the local parlour -- 'look, it's a 90's British Boys Band!'. Ignored the news. It was a good weekend.
Thirty years... just --wow. Hope we can make it through another thirty.
Love you, mister.
